Facing her own challenges in conceiving, she realized the limited expertise and outdated technology available in developing countries. The period was marked by high stress levels, feelings of jealousy towards others’ pregnancies, and irritability even towards patients and colleagues. Eventually, after three years of childlessness, Dr. Sanu overcame her infertility struggles. This personal journey fueled her determination to specialize in reproductive medicine and provide treatment for infertile women. Her dream materialized when she was awarded the AUS AID scholarship for a Master’s in Obstetrics/Gynaecology at the University of New South Wales, Australia, in 2001.

Upon returning to Nepal in 2004, Dr. Sanu had the opportunity to work at Om IVF Centre, Om Hospital, alongside renowned IVF specialists Dr. Narendra Malhotra and Dr. Jaydeep Malhotra from India, under the guidance of Dr. Bhola Rijal, the Chairman of Om Hospital. This experience allowed her to apply her newly acquired knowledge and gain practical exposure in handling infertility cases. Dr. Sanu is grateful to Dr. Rijal for providing her with this invaluable educational opportunity.

In 2007, after three years at Om IVF, Dr. Sanu embarked on starting her own IVF center, “IVF Nepal Pvt. Ltd.” While she initiated the project, financial support came from Dr. Gyanendra Man Singh Karki, a Senior Consultant Gynaecologist and Laparoscopic Surgeon, who served as the Chairman of IVF Nepal Pvt. Ltd. Under Dr. Sanu’s leadership, the center assisted thousands of infertile couples until October 2015, resulting in the birth of 250 IVF babies. The center achieved a take-home baby rate of 28.9%. However, Dr. Sanu faced challenges in updating and expanding the facility to offer more advanced ART techniques like Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) and training the staff to become specialized and independent, including the addition of in-house embryologists.

Finally, in November 2015, Dr. Sanu established “Creators IVF Nepal Pvt. Ltd.” with full ownership and leadership. Since its inception, the center has conducted six IVF batches between November 2015 and August 2016. The first IVF baby born at Creators IVF Nepal Pvt. Ltd. arrived on September 02, 2016.

Dr. Sanu Maiya Shrestha (Pradhan) is a highly experienced Senior Consultant Gynaecologist and IVF specialist at IVF Nepal Pvt. Ltd. With a distinguished academic background, she completed her undergraduate education in medicine (MBBS) in the former USSR in 1991. In 1994, she achieved Membership of Royal College of Obstetrician and Gynaecologists Part I (MRCOG Part I). Although personal circumstances prevented her from completing MRCOG Part II in 1997, her dedication to the field remained unwavering.

In 2001, Dr. Sanu was awarded the prestigious AUS AID Scholarship, enabling her to pursue a Master of Science in Obs/Gynae at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. She successfully obtained her MSc. in Obs/Gynae from UNSW in 2004. During her master’s study, she received comprehensive training in Transvaginal Doppler Ultrasound for ART. Her research focused on the “Longitudinal Assessment of Ovarian and Endometrial Vascularity by Power Doppler Ultrasound during Spontaneous and Stimulated Ovarian Cycles in Assisted Reproduction Treatment,” which resulted in scientific papers and presentations at various conferences.

Upon her return from Australia, Dr. Sanu actively collaborated with renowned IVF specialists, Dr. Jaideep Malhotra and Dr. Narendra Malhotra from India, at Om IVF center (Om Hospital), Chabahil, Kathmandu, from 2004 to 2007.

From August 2007 to October 2015, Dr. Sanu served as a key figure in the success of IVF Nepal Pvt. Ltd., overseeing the birth of 250 IVF babies. Since November 2015, she has continued her remarkable journey as the Chairperson/Managing Director of Creator’s IVF Nepal Pvt. Ltd.
